The 45° & 90° Quartz Polarization Rotator is based on the optical activity of Quartz, which rotates the linearly polarized light by a fixed angle, regardless of the alignment of the rotator with respect to the beam's polarization. Unlike waveplates, which require precise alignment to achieve a specific rotation angle, polarization rotators made from crystalline quartz offer a convenient alternative.

Quartz polarization rotators take advantage of the optical activity naturally present in quartz crystals . This optical activity allows them to produce a rotation in polarization independent of the rotator's orientation around the crystal's optical axis. Consequently, these rotators only need to be aligned perpendicular to the direction of light propagation. The rotation of polarization is attributed to the inherent property known as optical activity, which is characteristic of quartz crystals and other enantiomorphous materials. Quartz can be "right-handed" or "left-handed," resulting in clockwise or counterclockwise rotation of polarization, respectively.
CRYSMIT provide Quartz Polarization Rotators for common laser wavelengths, such as 45 degrees or 90 degrees. The optical axis in a polarization rotator is positioned perpendicular to the polished face of the optic, ensuring efficient performance.
CRYSMIT also offer high-quality quartz polarization rotators tailored to meet specific customer requirements.

A polarization rotator is an optical device that rotates the polarization axis of a linearly polarized light beam by an angle of choice. Such devices is based on the Crystalline optical rotation performance.
What is the rotation of the plane of polarization with quartz ?
There are right-handed and left-handed quartzes. In a right rotation the plane of polarization is rotated clockwise as seen by an observer looking in the direction opposite to the light ray propagation, in a left rotation the plane of polarization is rotated anticlockwise. The angle of rotation is determined by the thickness.
How much does the Quartz Polarization Rotator cost ?
The price of Quartz Polarization Rotator depends on factors such as its size, wave band range and quantity. Generally speaking, the price ranges from tens of dollars to hundreds of dollars.
How do I clean and maintain the Quartz Polarization Rotator ?
The Quartz Polarization Rotator requires regular cleaning and maintenance, which can be cleaned with pure ethanol, avoiding the use of organic solvents and strong acid and alkali solutions.
